Migrating IoT Smart Home Platform to AWS Core Infrastructure

Our client, a developer of an AI-powered IoT Smart Home platform, approached us to migrate their platform from a combination of Supabase, Firebase, and custom backends to a scalable, secure AWS Core infrastructure. The platform allows users to control lighting, climate, security, and appliances through mobile apps (Flutter/React Native) and web dashboards (React.js/Next.js), with real-time automation and notifications.

IoT Smart Home Platform Migration to AWS Core Infrastructure:

Our client, an AI empowered IoT Smart Home Platform developer, contacted us to assist with migrating their solution from a combination of Supabase, Firebase, and custom back ends, to a scalable and secure aws core infrastructure. The platform allows users to manage their smart home for lights, climate control, security, and appliances through either mobile applications (flutter/react native) and web dashboards (react/next.js), as well as real-time automation and notification capabilities.

Stage 1: Assessment

We conducted a full audit of the current technology stack:

  • Backend: Node.js/Supabase/Firebase (Auth, Real-time DB, Cloud Functions)
  • IoT Communication: WebSockets/MQTT

The AWS architecture we created was cloud native:

Migration Execution
  • IoT devices were set up with X.509 certs to securely connect back to the core AWS IoT.
  • All legacy data was ETL'd from Firebase/Supabase into DynamoDB and S3.
  • All existing Node.js backend functions were refactored into Lambda functions.
  • Real-Time dashboards and metrics were updated to connect to Websocket endpoints via API Gateway.
  • Authentication workflows were migrated to Cognito for JWT integration with mobile and web apps.
