Custom IoT Hardware & Firmware Development Services

The modern world connects machines that can sense, think, and act independently without human intervention. Building smart connected IoT solutions requires the design of both hardware such as circuit boards, sensors, and microcontrollers and software including embedded applications. These solutions increasingly incorporate AI capabilities.

The firmware is the 'brains" of a machine, controlling and managing the hardware. Adding AI to an IoT device provides it with even more intelligence by giving it advanced capabilities for analyzing data (e.g.: pattern recognition, anomaly detection, predictive maintenance). An IoT device that does not have AI can only collect and pass on the data it collected from its sensors. With added intelligence from AI, an IoT device can analyze the data received from its sensors and act on the analyzed data independently.

The firmware is considered to be the "brain" of any hardware or IoT device that controls how that device operates. In addition, artificial intelligence adds intelligence to IoT devices by performing functions such as pattern recognition and predictive maintenance.

Without artificial intelligence, an IoT device can collect data, but with artificial intelligence, an IoT device can collect data and then use the collected data to make informed decisions.

The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to more than merely connecting things. A true IoT solution includes three distinct layers:

  1. Smart Hardware (Sensors, Controllers, Boards)
  2. Firmware (Low-Level Intelligence)
  3. AI-Powered Data Processing and Decision Making

Firmware is the brain that activates the hardware. When we add Artificial Intelligence and Smart Logic, the device doesn't just transmit data; it comprehends it and begins to make its own decisions.

The demand for AI-powered IoT is growing in fields like smart cities, agriculture, manufacturing, and wearable’s. For instance, in a smart farming device, if the firmware isn't AI-driven, it won't react to soil moisture levels, which can cause crop damage.

At Adequate Infosoft, we guarantee that your devices are not only connected but also intelligent and autonomous. Our unique approach includes running neural networks on embedded chips, which is uncommon and not widely offered in the market.

A Unique Case Study: AI-Powered Smart Agriculture IoT System Development

Adequate infosoft recently developed an innovative AI-powered IoT hardware and firmware solution for a leading AgTech startup, pushing smart farming forward. The client was an African company focused on farmers, which had a custom soil monitoring device but relied on traditional sensors that struggled with accurate data processing.

A Unique Case Study: AI-Powered Smart Agriculture IoT System Development

Challenge

Our team developed a hybrid IoT-based solution to automate crop irrigation (water & nutrient) in changing weather conditions without human supervision.

The goal of this solution was to reduce water wasted through inefficient irrigation practices and increase productivity.

The current solution consists of two components:

  1. A custom hardware platform that uses an ESP32-based board with multiple sensors (temperature, moisture, pH, and UV).
  2. AI-integrated firmware providing the connectivity will develop improved results than if used independently.

Solution

When we began the project, we assessed what the client required, including real-time data analysis, predictive irrigation, and cloud integration then, we outfitted the firmware with TensorFlow Lite so that it could perform on-device machine learning by recognizing weather patterns and making automations based on those predictions.

For example, if the moisture content of the soil falls below 30% and no rain is expected, then the system will automatically turn on the irrigation system to prevent crop loss.

Our other major feature is a self-adaptive algorithm that changes its parameters while working in real time according to the crops (such as wheat, rice) it is providing for.

In addition to being fully developed in house, this solution has no other equivalents in the marketplace. The hardware was designed to use very low power and will be charged with solar panels so it can be used anywhere in a rural setting.

Result

As a result, the client's pilot farm experienced a 45% reduction in water use, a 28% increase in crop yield, and data accuracy reached 95%.

The system connects via LoRaWAN, suitable for large farms of over 10 acres. We completed the project in 8 weeks, leading to a 25% cost saving for the client.

This case study from Adequate infosoft shows how we combine AI and IoT to create sustainable solutions for India’s agriculture sector. If you are interested in similar innovative IoT projects, contact us to turn your challenges into opportunities!
