Core Utility Coverage: Electrical, Water, and Gas

Smart Electrical Metering

Our smart electrical meters are available in both single phase and three phase configurations, and meet IEC 62053 (accuracy class 1) and ANSI C12.20 standards. Below are the main technical features of our meters:

Real-Time Measurements

These meters can measure voltage, current (up to 200A), active/reactive power, power factor, frequency (50hz/60hz), and harmonics (up to 31st).

Bi-Directional Metering Capability

This functionality is essential for net metering purposes (e.g. when you are generating power from solar or wind energy).

Load Profiling Capability

The meters can store data on 15-minute to 1-hour intervals for a period of 90 days.

Tamper Detection Capabilities

These meters have built in magnetic field detection, cover opening alert, and neutral disconnect detection capabilities.

Ability to Remotely Connect/Disconnect Services

Our meters have an integrated relay that can control the connection and disconnection of the service (up to 100A) by the utility.

Water Smart Metering

We use ultrasonic or electromagnetic flow sensing in our water meters for high accuracy (±1% of reading) and no moving parts, making them ideal for low flow detection and wastewater applications. Technical specs are:

Measurement range:

0.01m³/h to 1000m³/h (customizable from residential to industrial)

Leak and burst detection:

Continuous low flow alarm and detection of sudden pressure drop • Check backflow prevention devices.

Material compliance:

Lead free brass or polymer bodies that are compliant with NSF/ANSI 61 standards.

Battery life:

10+ years on a 3.6V Li-SOCl2 pack.

Gas Smart Meter Systems

We use the latest diaphragm, ultrasonic and other measuring technology to measure the consumption of gas, including natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and biogas.

Our products have the ability to measure wide ranges of flow rates (G1.6-65) with real-time temperature and pressure compensation to convert to standard volume, as well as the ability to detect extremely low levels of leaks through micro-flow and pressure decay monitoring.

Our systems are manufactured with ATEX and/or IECEx Zone 1 certified explosion proof enclosures and energy-efficient valve control for safe operation of emergency shutoff systems.

Custom IoT Device Development for Smart Metering

We do not rely solely on off-the-shelf modules. Our custom IoT device development ensures optimal power efficiency, secure communication, and long-term maintainability.

Hardware Design Capabilities

Cortex-M (MCU):

Ultra-low-power ARM microcontroller (e.g., STM32U5, RISC-V) with hardware cryptographic accelerator.

AFE (Analog front end):

For electrical (e.g., ADE9000) or water/gas (e.g., TDC-GP30 = ultrasonic or AS6040 = magnetic) metering.

Security:

A dedicated security element (e.g., ATECC608B or STSAFE-A110) will provide secure key storage and TLS authentication.

Power management:

Dual path (mains + battery) for supply. Water/Gas power supply: A pair of 3.6V primary cells (battery) and a supercapacitor for data transmission bursts.

Communication Stack on Meter

This multi-layer communications stack (i.e. Communication Stack on Meter) as implemented in our firmware consists of:

  • Physical/MAC layer = LoRaWAN (1.0.4), NB-IoT (LTE Cat M1/NB2) or WSUN FAN 1.1
  • Network/Transport Layer = UDP with CoAP or MQTT-SN (when using DTLS 1.2)
  • Application Layer = DLMS/COSEM (IEC 62056-6-2) or OMS (Open Metering System) Grp 5/6

In addition, we can create edge application logic on the meter side (e.g. Local alarm trigger; Avg. PF calculation over a sliding window; Hourly data aggregation) thereby reducing the amount of data that would otherwise require storage in the cloud.

IoT Gateway Development and Firmware

For installations where meters cannot directly connect to a WAN (e.g., basement gas meters, legacy water meters retrofitted with pulse outputs), we build custom IoT gateways. These gateways aggregate data from multiple meters and backhaul it via cellular or Ethernet.

Gateway Hardware Specifications

Our smart-metering gateway is built with i.MX 8M Mini or cost-efficient ESP32-S3 technologies. It supports wireless M-Bus, Zigbee, RS-485 Modbus, and pulse input and 4-20mA legacy integrations.

WAN connectivity is offered via 4G/LTE, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet. Furthermore, the Gateway has 16GB of storage, offers both PoE and Solar-Power options, and has robust buffering to support reliable, scalable, and uninterrupted multi-protocol data acquisition for utility grade multiple protocol data acquisition for utility grade applications.

Gateway Software & Edge Intelligence

The gateway is built on a customized Yocto Linux operating system (kernel version 5.15) with a modular architecture using Docker containers. The features of the gateway include: A flexible meter polling engine, multi-protocol conversion (WMBus, Modbus, and DLMS to MQTT, JSON, and Protobuf), edge analytics for anomaly detection, data compression and bandwidth optimization.

The gateway also supports secure Over-the-air (OTA) updates via signed images and AWS IoT jobs along with a lightweight HTML5 local dashboard for technicians in the field with IP-based access controls.

Integration of Popular Third-Party Metering Devices and SDKs

We recognize that many utilities already own inventories from leading manufacturers. Rather than forcing a rip-and-replace, our system offers deep SDK and protocol integration for popular brands.

Integration Architecture

The design of our integration architecture consists of one common device abstraction layer that converts all vendor-specific protocol, register, and API information into a single, standard JSON format data model.

Lightweight bridge services will be created by us for each of the third-party meters that have their own SDKs, to assist with managing authentication, reading the meter's value, converting the reader's data into a uniform format, and securely delivering the data via an MQTT.

By using this method, we can easily integrate many different types of meters onto one scalable platform.

Use case example:

For the Itron OpenWay SDK, our bridge handles the proprietary 900 MHz mesh retries and session encryption. The data (instantaneous kW, cumulative kWh, voltage phase angles) is then normalized and forwarded. This approach preserves all vendor-specific diagnostics (e.g., battery health, tamper flags) while ensuring interoperability.

Reverse Engineering & BSP Customization

For devices without an official SDK, we perform protocol reverse engineering (legal under right-to-repair and interoperability provisions). We develop custom Board Support Package (BSP) modules that parse raw serial or wireless frames (e.g., wMBus C1/T1 mode, DLMS IEC 62056-21 mode C). All parsing code undergoes differential fuzzing to ensure reliability.
