Solar & Home Battery Monitoring Platform Developed with .NET MAUI

An experienced Smart Solar and Home Battery Monitoring Platform development company, Adequate Infosoft has developed advanced solar monitoring app solutions.

In this case study, we demonstrate how we developed a scalable application for a client located in Denmark using .NET MAUI. The system is fully operational and allows users to monitor energy production and consumption and track the battery's status in real-time.

Introduction

The increasing use of renewable forms of power generation (mainly solar) is prompting many people to buy solar panels along with battery systems that will allow them to use this alternative source of power instead of relying on a normal utility grid.

However, one significant shortcoming of these systems is that they do not provide real-time visibility into energy generation and consumption.

We built the energy management program IBESS (Building Energy Storage System) to fill the gap in solar power management capabilities and to provide users with real-time information about the amount and type of energy generated by their solar panels, the amount of battery capacity available to store this energy for use during periods of high demand (such as in the evening) and what their home uses in total consumption each month.

The IBESS application is available for both Android and iOS devices, and it simplifies complex energy systems into an innovative, user-friendly application for homeowners that allows them to make better energy decisions.

Issue Description

Newer solar systems produce electricity at an incredible rate, but they typically do not provide an easy-to-use method for the homeowner to monitor all of their energy production and battery usage. Homeowners experience problems such as:

  • An inability to monitor both their solar production and battery usage from one place;
  • Not having any way to see how much energy they are using or producing in real-time;
  • No way to assess the amount they save by using solar and how efficiently they are using it;
  • Using very complex user interfaces with traditional energy management systems;
  • No ability to remotely access their energy data.

If users do not have access to these resources, they cannot maximize their solar investment. The objective of the project was to develop an intelligent, easy-to-use, and easily scalable solution to help users monitor their energy usage more easily.

Solution Overview

The IBESS project is intended to be a live solar battery and energy monitoring platform, connecting directly to the personal energy systems of users, while producing accurate information immediately. The application enables:

  • Real-time solar production data snapshots
  • Monitoring battery charging/discharge levels
  • Displaying energy use for each household
  • Access from anywhere
  • Simple, easy to use, and understand graphics.

The primary goal of the program is to create actionable interpretation of technical data related to energy usage.

Key Features

1. Real-Time Monitoring of Solar Energy

Users have access to real time statistics on how much power their solar panels are putting out right then.

  • Current power production
  • Historical data on energy produced
  • Insights on daily/weekly/monthly usage patterns

This allows users to identify peak production periods, and use that information to convert energy consumption.

2. Battery Monitoring

A key feature of IBESS is battery management.

Users can:

  • Determine current battery state of charge
  • Track charge/discharge cycles
  • Estimate production efficiency

This means users will always know:

  • How much stored backup energy is left
  • When batteries are charging from the solar system
  • When the battery is being discharged/utilized

3. Energy use analysis

IBESS provides not only details to show you what production were, but it also gives you the picture of consumption.

  • Track usage of energy
  • Compare grid vs solar consumption
  • Compare efficiency

By users being able to see these figures helps them to identify trends such as:

  • When are there high levels of electricity usage?
  • Where can you create opportunities to lower electricity bills?
  • Where can you optimise your use of solar energy?

4. Remote Control & Monitoring

It is important to IBESS that the customer can monitor their systems from anywhere. This is accomplished through IBESS.

  • Users have the ability to view their data remotely via a mobile device
  • Real-time updates to ensure that the data are accurate
  • Cloud syncing for all users of IBESS keeps their data true

This is very advantageous for people who have second homes / are away a lot, or who have multiple properties in different cities.

5. User-Centric Dashboard Design

Energy systems are complex, but IBESS simplifies everything through a clean, intuitive interface.

  • Graph-based data visualization
  • Easy-to-read metrics
  • Minimal learning curve

The dashboard was carefully designed to ensure that even non-technical users can quickly understand their energy data.

6. Alerts & Notifications

To improve user awareness, IBESS includes smart alerts:

  • Low battery warnings
  • System performance notifications
  • Energy usage alerts

These notifications help users take timely action and avoid unexpected energy shortages.

Technology Stack

Tech stack of our solution has been created in a way that will give you a solution that is both scalable and fast. Our technology stack consists of many modern technologies; here they are:

  • Mobile Front End will use a Cross Platform Technology (e.g., .NET MAUI (or) native technologies) for mobile solutions and applications.
  • The Backend will use ASP.NET Core web API's for handling Real-Time Data.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: We are committed to using Azure/AWS for our cloud infrastructure to provide scalability and reliability.
  • Database: Energy data storage will take place in a secure cloud-based Storage solution.
  • IoT Integration will be incorporated using API to connect Solar Inverters & Battery Systems Our architecture will also support:

IoT Integration

By providing the integration of an IoT platform into the app, IBESS provides users with real-time visibility and control over their energy systems, as well as instant access to critical information such as voltage and current levels, energy flow direction, and battery health data.

Through this connectivity to solar inverters, Battery Management Systems (BMS) and Smart Energy Controllers, IBESS creates a digital twin of the entire home energy system in real-time.

Results & Impact

IBESS has changed the user experience of using a Solar system:

  • Increased user energy consciousness
  • Enhanced energy efficiency of Solar
  • Decreased reliance on utilities for power usage
  • Greater participation by users through live consumption data

Users have total control over their energy environment, enabling them to make informed decisions and save money.

Business Value

For businesses and energy providers, IBESS offers:

  • A scalable platform for customer engagement
  • Enhanced value for solar installations
  • Opportunities for data-driven services
  • Improved customer satisfaction

It bridges the gap between hardware systems and user experience, creating a complete digital solution.

Conclusion

The IBESS platform which offers the management of energy consumption through solar, battery and IoT innovations will shape the future of smart energy management allowing greater empowerment over consumer's utility use by simplifying systems so that they can create a real world sustainability impact with state of the art technologies.

As more people adopt renewable energy sources, this type of platform will be very important in creating connected infrastructures as well as smart and energy efficient homes.
