Project Overview

Dairy360 is currently deployed in some of the largest dairy clusters, managing:

System Architecture & Technology Stack

Dairy360 has implemented a modern, distributed architecture that is designed to be scalable, perform well, and function offline by utilizing a new technology stack.

Frontend

  • The mobile application will be built with React Native (for cross-platform – Android and iOS) to provide offline functionality with an offline-first design approach that is focused on providing farmers with a product that will work in rural locations and, supporting multiple languages.
  • The web application will be built with Blazor and will be used by administrators to monitor dairy operations with real-time dashboards and reports.

Backend

  • The backend will be built with .NET 9 and will implement a clean architecture with modularized services.
  • All backend services will use REST or gRPC as the API protocol to promote high performance between services.

To ensure scalability, performance, and offline reliability, Dairy360 is built using a modern and distributed architecture.

  • Stored on the Edge with no connectivity
  • Able to sync to the Main server when there is a connection available to use.

Hardware Integration

Integrating hardware into Dairy360 is seamless with Internet of Things (IoT) hardware devices, such as:

  • Smart GPS-enabled ear tags that allow for tracking an animal’s location and movement, plus they have an NFC chip in them to enable rapid identification.
  • Automatic Milking Units that provide real-time data on the milk harvested from each animal (e.g., quantity, fat content, and temperature).
  • NFC Readers that allow for rapid scanning to identify each animal using NFC technology.

To facilitate the seamless operation of Dairy360 in rural locations, we provide various connectivity methods, including:

  • Support for LoRa (Long Range Communication) technology for low-power consumption to support IoT devices.
  • Ability to fall back on WiFi to transfer data when available, thus enabling faster data synchronization with the Dairy360 cloud-based platform.
  • Offline synchronization using alternative means, including USB, data migration/transfer using SD cards, and Bluetooth.

Since Dairy360 was created to address rural issues, it does not require internet access.

  • All data is saved on a local SQLite database
  • The information automatically syncs whenever an internet connection is available
  • There is no way to lose data while using Dairy360

Automated Milking System Integration

The automatic milking system directly connects to the milking machine:

  • Real-time milk production data is recorded
  • Manual errors are removed from milk production
  • Analytics can be provided instantly

Blockchain-Based Milk Quality Ledger

For improving transparency and trust:

  • Every batch of milk is saved on the blockchain
  • The information is stored using the Interplanetary File System (IPFS) protocol
  • There is an immutable record of each batch of milk from the farm to the processing plant.

There will be no way for anyone to tamper with the data and provide full traceability back to the cow that produced the milk.
